Fake Calls From Intuit
Cybercriminals are at it again—this time targeting Intuit users with a new phone scam. With QuickBooks recently releasing an update, fraudsters are taking advantage of the moment by calling unsuspecting users and claiming there’s a “problem” with the update.
⚠️ Important Reminder: Intuit—the company behind QuickBooks and TurboTax—does not make unsolicited phone calls. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Intuit about an update issue, it’s almost certainly a scam.
How the Scam Works
These fake callers use scare tactics to trick victims into:
-
Sharing personal or financial information
-
Granting remote access to their computers
-
Installing malicious software
-
Exposing sensitive business data
In many cases, this can lead to identity theft, data breaches, or financial loss.
What Intuit Says
According to Intuit’s official security guidance, they will never:
-
Call you about missed payments or software updates you didn’t request
-
Send emails with update attachments
-
Ask for your password, banking details, or login credentials
If you hear these requests, you can be certain it’s a scammer.
Industry Warnings
IT providers and accounting firms have flagged an increase in calls where scammers claim there are “critical vulnerabilities” or that you’ve “hit a storage limit” in QuickBooks. Don’t be fooled: QuickBooks Online does not have storage limits, and these claims are false.
Security experts confirm that these calls often push users to install fake “updates” or remote access tools designed to compromise your system.
What You Should Do
If you receive one of these calls:
-
❌ Hang up immediately
-
❌ Do not share login credentials, payment information, or banking details
-
✅ Verify any concerns by visiting Intuit’s official website directly
-
✅ Report suspicious activity to both Intuit and your IT provider
Stay Protected
Scammers thrive on urgency and fear. By staying alert and informed, you can safeguard yourself and your business from identity theft, financial fraud, and data breaches.
Remember: when in doubt, go directly to the source—never trust an unsolicited call.
